On April 1st we woke up at the crack of dawn, literally the sun was just starting to rise, so that we could get ready for our day trip to Port Stephens! We were fully equipped with sun cream, sunnies, and our swimmers. That's Aussie for: we had out sun screen, sun glasses, and our bathing suits! And we were off!
Port Stephens is located about three hours north-east of Sydney and it's a cute little harbour town area!
When we arrived we around town for walked around for a bit and checked out the cute little shops before boarding the boat for our dolphin watch! On our boat ride we feasted on fish & chips which was absolutely delicious. We saw a few dolphins and then decided to enjoy the tour a little differently. We went boom netting! It's hard to explain but you can Google search it. Basically there was this large net attached to the side of the boat that we climbed into and held on to for the remainder of the ride. We were in hysterical laughter the entire time and of course making a ruckus.
After the whole boom netting chaos we drove about twenty minutes to this area with HUGE sand dunes. We hopped in a truck for a 4WD ride out a bit, which was crazy and again we were laughing so hard. Within a few minutes we arrived at our sand boarding location! Sand boarding is just like sledding but on sand! When you got to the top it was a little scary to look down but once you pushed off it was so much fun! You would go down SO quickly. We even took some videos! I should probably get around to posting some of those!
After sand boarding we decided to take a quick, refreshing dip at the beach before beginning our drive back to Sydney. There aren't even words to describe how PERFECT this swim was. We all just ran towards the water, no looking back. We were so sandy and gross from the prior events of our day that all we wanted was to frolic in the water and that is exactly what we did. It was actually perfect.
When we arrived back in the city we grabbed and quick dinner and finally got home. It was SUCH a long day but we had SO much fun. I think it'd been my favorite day of the semester. We had a blast!
